PEYNAUD ESTABLISHMENTS Art Nouveau table lamp with baluster base with a heat-moulded notch and mushroom lampshade. Decor of mulberry blossoms in natural polychrome enamels on an orange-yellow background. Produced in the Art Nouveau period, circa 1910. Signed on each piece. Height. 33 cm (total) Little recognised in his time, Jean-Simon Peynaud shared a similar passion with master glassmakers and famous artists such as LEGRAS, GALLÉ, ARGY-ROUSSEAU, DELATTE and the DAUM brothers. His creations, ranging from decorative objects to utilitarian items as well as exhibition pieces, are limited in number but of exceptional quality. Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, each of his works highlights his artistic talent and distinctive characteristics. Despite his rare talents as a glassmaker, Jean-Simon Peynaud often remains unknown to the general public, although he deserves wider recognition. Born on September 6, 1869 in Lauzun in Lot-et-Garonne and died in Bordeaux on November 17, 1952, Jean-Simon Peynaud was an art enthusiast who enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux in 1886 In 1892, he began his career with the renowned Bordeaux earthenware factory Jules Vieillard. Within this pottery, Jean-Simon Peynaud shared a workshop with Amédée de Caranza, a ceramist and glassmaker recognised for his relief enamel technique. Their collaboration will last until 1895, when the brand closed its doors. Subsequently, Jean-Simon Peynaud founded his own company and put his artistic sense to the service of magnificent glass pieces, falling within the aesthetics of Art Nouveau or Jugendstil in Germany. His company mainly specialised in creating pieces of artistic glass, some being enamelled and others engraved in the Art Nouveau style. Among Peynaud's creations, there are acid-etched glass tables as well as pressed glass objects. Vases, bonbonnieres, luminaries and goblets are part of his repertoire, and his works are frequently presented at auctions. Unlike other glass masters of his time, Jean-Simon Peynaud produced his pieces in very limited series, which somewhat diminished his well-deserved notoriety and fame at the time. However, he is quickly gaining recognition and popularity with collectors and designers in modern times as his creations are reintroduced to the marketplace.

Rewired: The lamp has been professionally rewired using the original refurbished fittings and new flex. Wear consistent with age and use. There are a few extremely small chips to the glass of the lamp shade on the inside edge.
