About the Item

This extraordinary resin table lamp with inclusions is a stunning statement piece designed by renowned French designer Pierre Giraudon. Crafted circa 1960, the rare piece features a layered poured resin with orange coral-like inclusions and a black resin base. The resin's natural, yellowish coloration, which develops over time, enhances its timeless aesthetic. Dimensions: 2.75 in wide (7 cm) by 2.75 in deep (7 cm) by 14.19 in high (36 cm). Note: Pierre Giraudon (1923-2012). In the 1940s, while working as a biologist in Canada, he was the first to use products of his invention, including plants, animals, and other materials in resin, for academic purposes. He returned to France in 1949 and began working with this material for his pleasure, adding his artistic touches. As he became highly proficient with this material, he gradually turned it into works of art. During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, he created sculptures, lamps, and spectacular objects in colored resin with or without inclusions. In parallel with his creations, he worked with the famous French sculptor César. Nevertheless, Giraudon always refused to be called an artist because he considered himself primarily a biologist.
