About the Item

Pair of sculptural hand-crafted cocoon table lamps, Italy, 1970s. Formed by several varnished pine wood elements of different shapes and sizes, creating two curious columns of a certain Memphis and Brutalist style. Both columns culminate with two tulips made with a metal frame covered with cocoon resin. Very rare pieces, for any type of decoration. Artisanal manufacture, unknown origin. The cocoon material was invented after World War II to protect unarmed warships and other unprotected items. It is made of powdered plastic and fiberglass. Arturo Eisenkeil imported this material to Italy, with which he made a multitude of decorative lamps and marketed them. For one E14 bulb each piece. Wooden structure in perfect condition. Renovated electrical installation. Cocoon lampshades show minimal signs of use. Large one: 66 cm high, 18 cm in diameter. Small one: 53 cm high, 18 cm in diameter.
