Rare Arts Crafts Brass Three Legged Wall Lamp with Vaseline Glass Shade

Unusual Arts Crafts Three Legged Lamp in the style of WAS Benson A quality cast brass three legged lamp with unusual horse hoof detailing to each of the feet. English Made circa 1900. The lamp is in a style produced by William Arthur Smith Benson (W.A.S Benson) however the makers marks are unclear on one of the feet so this cannot be confirmed. The lamp is designed to be wall mounted but could be used as a table lamp providing it is fixed via the opening in one of the feet. Adjustable via the swivel knuckle joint and hand tensioner. The original vaseline glass shade has a frilled design and when illuminated displays a beautiful blue tone with hints of brown to the tips of the frills. The light comes completely professionally restored wired with our premium twist black fabric cable, toggle switch and UK 3A Plug. A truly unique lamp based on a iconic design with some unusual details make this a wonderful one off feature piece. William Arthur Smith Benson Lighting William Arthur Smith Benson (1854–1924) was a pivotal figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, renowned for his innovative and elegant lighting designs. A close associate of William Morris, Benson’s work exemplified the movement’s ideals of craftsmanship and functionality. He founded his own workshop in 1880, where he produced a range of metalwork, including lighting fixtures, which became his hallmark. Benson’s lighting designs were groundbreaking, blending artistic beauty with modern practicality. He utilised materials such as brass and copper, creating lamps that were not only functional but also decorative. His designs often featured flowing organic shapes, reflecting the movement’s emphasis on nature-inspired motifs. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Benson embraced industrial techniques, such as machine tooling, to achieve consistent quality and affordability without compromising artistic integrity. Benson's work was widely celebrated during his lifetime and continues to be highly regarded for its timeless elegance and innovation.
