About the Item

For sale is an iconic and extremely rare orange 600P table lamp by GINO SARFATTI, designed in 1966 and produced by Arteluce of Italy. Thanks to its lead-filled weighted pouch base, the lamp can be placed at any angle and the reflector shade can be rotated to direct light in any direction. Made of lacquered aluminium and synthetic leather, the light is in excellent overall condition, with some minor chips to the paintwork, but absolutely nothing to detract (see photos). Gino Sarfatti’s 600P lamp is a masterpiece of mid-century Italian lighting design, embodying his signature blend of innovation, functionality, and sculptural elegance. Its minimalist yet expressive form exemplifies Sarfatti’s ability to create designs that feel both utilitarian and artistic. As with much of his work, the 600P showcases his pioneering use of new materials and lighting technologies. The ingenious design was intended as a lamp you could pack in a suitcase and take on holiday. Exhibited at the 14th Milan Triennale in 1968, the Model 600 was also featured at the 1972 "ITALY: THE NEW DOMESTIC LANDSCAPE" at MoMA in New York, the 1985 exhibition "LUMIERES JE PENSE À VOUS" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and in 1986 the "ITALIA DISEÑO" exhibition at the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City. It is, amongst other Sarfatti gems, part of the permanent collection at MoMA, NY. Gino Sarfatti wasn’t just a lighting designer — he was a technologist of elegance, the mind behind Arteluce, and the man who single-handedly changed how the modern world interacts with light. With over 600 radical designs to his name, Sarfatti fused his background in aeronautical engineering with a relentless curiosity for new materials and ideas, creating pieces that were decades ahead of their time. His work didn’t follow trends — it set them. From pioneering the use of halogen bulbs to inventing modular systems that could shape-shift with a space, Sarfatti’s lights weren’t just functional objects — they were instruments of atmosphere. Collectors today aren’t just buying a lamp — they’re acquiring a piece of post-war Italian innovation, an artefact of intellectual design, and a timeless expression of form meeting function at its most sublime. A true master of modern light, his legacy is as luminous as the fixtures he left behind.

Ross Lovegrove D36 “Agaricon” Table Lamp for Luceplan, Italy 1999
By Luce Plan, Ross Lovegrove
Located in London, GB
For sale is an iconic orange D36 “Agaricon” table lamp, designed by Ross Lovegrove in 1999 for LucePlan of Italy. Light and semi-transparent, the Agaricon (Greek for mushroom) is switched on and off by touching an aluminium sensor ring that runs around the outer edge of the lamp's shade. Running the finger along that rim regulates the modulation of light intensity and acts as a dimmer. The body and lid are made of high-pressure injection-moulded polycarbonate. The lamp is in superb vintage condition and in perfect working order. The only issue of note is that two of the three small plastic clips that would have originally secured the top plate to the rest of the lamp are missing. This is only an issue if the lamp is tipped upside down, without holding on to the top, otherwise the plate sits snugly in the base. The Agaricon which is included in Charlotte & Peter Fiell’s book, “1000 Lamps” and featured in many museum design collections is already a lighting classic and makes quite a statement. Ross Lovegrove is one of the world’s most acclaimed and influential designers best known for utilising the latest technology to create futuristic, organic forms; he has applied his signature style to everything – from computers and bicycles to fragrance bottles, chairs to lighting, bathroom sets to speakers, aircraft seats...
