About the Item
Rare glass and nickel table lamp designed by Alberto Rosselli for Fontana Arte, mid-1960s. A sculptural and sophisticated piece, this lamp exemplifies Rosselli’s architectural precision and Fontana Arte’s mastery of glass. It features a cylindrical opaline glass diffuser encased within a trefoil loop of curved smoked glass, all set on a polished nickel base. The composition balances transparency, reflection, and volume, creating a luminous presence that changes character as the light shifts. Rosselli (1921 - 1976), Gio Ponti’s son-in-law and partner in Studio PFR, was an influential architect and designer who co-founded Stile magazine in 1954 and collaborated on projects such as the Pirelli Tower in Milan. One of only two lighting designs Rosselli created for Fontana Arte, this rare model captures the spirit of Italian modernism at its height, where clarity of form, material innovation, and poetic restraint converge.
