Elio MARTINELLI
Born in Lucca on November 19, 1922, the only son of Plinio and Emilia, an established milliner, Elio Martinelli trained in set design in Florence. After the untimely death of his father, he took over the family business, but soon directed his interests toward creative design. After the war he began collaborations on interior design for public places and, dissatisfied with the available lighting fixtures, began to design and produce his own lamps.
After the war he founded Martinelli Luce in Lucca, initially in a small underground workshop. With the support of a few collaborators and limited means, he developed an innovative design language. Married in 1949 to Anna, his partner and inspiration, he participated in major Italian and European fairs. The international breakthrough came in 1966 with Eurodomus in Genoa and the meeting with Giò Ponti. In the 1960s he experimented with new plastic materials and methacrylate molding techniques, producing some of his most iconic lamps. Always keen on technological innovation, he introduced new light sources and, since the 1980s, developed technical fixtures collected in the Sistemi catalog. At this time his daughter Emiliana joined the company.
In the 1990s, Martinelli Luce consolidated its international role, moving more and more toward the foreign and contract markets. Elio Martinelli died on October 21, 2004, after a long illness.

CONDITIONS
The lamp is working and in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos. Bears some slight and negligible traces of time visible in photos. Evaluate through photos.
