About the Item

Presenting a magnificent 19th-century gilt bronze and marble figural maiden candelabrum, an opulent example of neoclassical artistry and French decorative excellence. Standing an impressive 40 1/2" high x 10 1/4" wide x 13" deep, this sculptural lighting piece features a beautifully cast gilded bronze female figure, draped in flowing classical garments and posed with elegant upward movement. Her outstretched arms support an elaborate five-light branched candelabrum, designed as naturalistic stems, foliage, and blooming flowers—each terminating in a candle socket with bronze bobeches. The composition evokes themes of beauty, nature, and enlightenment, hallmarks of late 19th-century French decorative arts. The base is crafted from solid carved marble, shaped with fluted detailing and draped with finely cast bronze garlands and floral swags. The contrast between the cool white marble and warm gilt bronze creates an unmistakable sense of luxury. The richly textured gilding highlights the figure’s anatomical realism, the flowing texture of the fabric, and the intricate botanical design of the candle branches. This candelabrum is both a functional lighting piece and a museum-quality sculpture, suitable for grand entryways, formal living rooms, or refined interiors seeking a centerpiece of exceptional sophistication. The craftsmanship is consistent with the opulent lighting produced in 19th-century France, where bronze masters and sculptors collaborated to create lighting pieces that mirrored the grandeur of classical antiquity. The candelabrum’s scale, delicacy, and exuberant decorative vocabulary place it among the finest examples of its form. Condition: Age-appropriate wear is present, including oxidation to the gilt bronze, chips and surface staining to the marble base, and normal signs of handling. The commode shown in the photo is not included. A rare and breathtaking figural candelabrum—perfect for collectors and connoisseurs of 19th-century French bronzes.
