About the Item

Green glass table lamp, 'Carina' model designed by Giampiero Tonetti in the 1980s Ø cm 12 h cm 27 Giampiero (or Gianpietro) Tonetti is an Italian designer, born in Cremona in 1958. He lives and works in Lodi. He is best known for his work in product design, rather than fine arts (such as painting or sculpture). His career in design began in 1977 as a freelance consultant for furniture companies. In 1983 he founded his own firm, Dimensioni s.a.s., which became Tonetti Design s.a.s. in 2011. Tonetti's work has spanned a variety of industries, ranging from furniture to the design of a wide range of consumer products. He has developed a solid technical knowledge of production processes and the potential of materials, evident in his designs. His main field is industrial design, creating functional and aesthetically pleasing products for various industries. Designs furniture (such as low tables), lighting (such as desk lamps) and other consumer goods. He won the Compasso d'Oro in 1989 for "Boomerang," a pharmacy drawer system produced by Icas. The Compasso d'Oro is one of the most prestigious design awards in Italy. He has designed for several brands, including Progetti (for which he designed the "Cosi" desk lamp in the 1980s), F.lli Orsenigo, Makris, Stiliac, Dexo, and Gedy. His designs often use materials such as acrylic glass (PMMA), metal (steel), wood (oak, MDF), glass, ceramics, natural stone (marble), and plant fibers (rope). Some of his works, such as the "Cosi" desk lamp, are characterized by a postmodern style, particularly those from the 1980s.
