About the Item

Toini Muona ceramic glazed table lamp, manufactured by Arabia, 1950s. Wicker shade, brass details. Marked. Good vintage condition, minor patina consistent with age and use. Toini Muona was a pioneer of modernism. Muona represented the sharpest edge of the Finnish art industry in the 1930s and 1950s. At the Arabia factory, for five decades she immersed herself in the creation of unique ceramic objects, while at the same time producing art glass and textiles. Muona's main historical contribution lies in the refinement of asymmetry and imperfection, which challenged both the Western classical formal tradition and the sophisticated Scandinavian formal culture.
