About the Item
An unusual table lamp attributed to Maison Charles, in the well-known “Oeuf Rosaces” model, dating from the 1970s.
The lamp is centred on a natural ostrich egg held within gilt bronze foliate mounts, with malachite used as a decorative accent characteristic of the Maison’s material vocabulary of the period. A rare malachite finial crowns the stem, continuing a Roman and French decorative lineage in which hardstone and exotic materials are elevated through gilt bronze mounts.
A distinctive and collectible example of late 20th-century French decorative lighting.
Condition:
The ostrich egg shows a small visible crack to the body, clearly illustrated in the final image. This does not compromise the structural integrity of the lamp. Restoration is possible; a repair quotation can be provided upon request.
