About the Item

Vintage Bauhaus table lamp by Christian Deki for Koranda, 1940s. Product in good condition with small wear caused by age and use. The Bauhaus was founded in Weimar in 1919 by architect Walter Gropius as a school of art and architecture. Under the influence of economic interests, the concept of the Bauhaus school evolved into a movement that formed a dynamic relationship between art and industry. The goal was to combine art and craftsmanship or architecture and design economical and functional products. These models could then be made available to industry. A new way of thinking has developed: forms with function - beautiful is what works. The strategic partnership between art and industry has led to the development of architecture and interior design. In the 1920s, the Bauhaus faced the problem of housing shortages, and Walter Gropius designed a concept for mass housing that could actually create more living space. Thus "Bauhaus" architecture was born. Most of the Bauhaus building complexes in Dessau, Berlin and Karlsruhe still exist today. In addition to architecture, the Bauhaus influenced other industrial sectors. Examples of this are Bauhaus wallpapers and tubular steel furniture, such as the Wassily armchair, designed in 1925 by Bauhaus artist Marcel Breuer. However, many products only became accessible to the general public later thanks to Bauhaus imitations.
