About the Item

An elegant ceramic table lamp by Georges Pelletier for La Roue, crafted in Vallauris during the 1970s. The lamp features a refined, bottle-shaped silhouette with a lustrous glazed surface that blends soft sage green tones with warm, reflective craquelure banding and rhythmic linear detailing. The shimmering gold craquelure glaze contrasts beautifully with the more matte, earthy textures below — a hallmark of Pelletier’s celebrated balance between form and finish. The piece can be topped with a crisp white linen shade, adding a contemporary lift to its vintage charm. Both subtle and striking, this lamp exemplifies the sophistication of 1970s Vallauris ceramics and makes an exceptional addition to any design-forward interior. In good overall condition. Please take note of some 'clouding' on the gold craquelure. Signed: 'Pelletier La Roue Vallauris (France)'. Currently wired for use in the EU but an adapter or simple change of the plug allows use almost everywhere. Lampshade for display only and not part of sale. Upon request a video will be provided. Dimensions: H (ceramic only) 18.5 cm / 7.3" H (including lamp holder) 25 cm / 9.8" Dia 13.5 cm / 5.3" About the Artist: Georges Pelletier was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1938. He started his training at the Academy Charpentier in Paris (School of Arts and Crafts) in the building which is now the Picasso Museum. After that period, Pelletier worked at the Atelier Claude Pantzer, the renowned Accolay pottery. In 1961 the artist opened his own studio in Paris where he created his first unique pieces. His work was noted by the Bobois furniture house for his evident creativity and talent and was subsequently asked to supply Roche Bobois with their lighting collections between 1961 and 1973. In 1973 Pelletier followed the sun to the South of France in the city of Cannes where he set up a new workshop where he is still active today. La Roue opened in 1962 and was run by Alexandre and Betty Fadas. La Roue was a studio which sold ceramics in the town of Vallauris in the South of France. Its wares were made by various potters and artisans in the area. Amongst those potters whose work was sold by La Roue were well known master ceramicists, Robert Picault and Georges Pelletier. There were a number of other contributors, many of whom sold work unsigned by themselves but under the La Roue umbrella. La Roue had a reputation for making the highest quality and most original ceramics in its day.

About the Artist: The mid-century ceramic art of Roger Capron (1922-2006) embodied the vibrant spirit and verve of Vallauris and the French Côte d'Azur. He took over an abandoned pottery studio at the age of 24 in Vallauris, where he worked with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. Capron’s ceramic workshop, known as "l'Atelier Callis", contributed to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris and at its peak employed over 120 ceramicists. He eventually expanded his production of vases, pitchers and other functional wares to include coffee tables with hand glazed tiles, lamp bases, wall plaques and other interior decor objects along with sculptural statues...
