About the Item

Pair of Table Lamps by Michel Zadounaïsky, France, 1920s – Art Deco Wrought Iron Antelopes A stunning pair of table lamps by Michel Zadounaïsky, crafted in France during the 1930s, featuring partially black patinated wrought iron shaped as elegant antelopes. Each lamp measures approximately 10.2" (26 cm) in length, 9.8" (25 cm) in height without the shade, 17.5" (44.5 cm) in height with the shade, and 6.1" (15.5 cm) in depth, weighing 6.5 kgs. Both lamps are signed “Zadounaïsky” beneath a distinctive rectangular twisted rope detail, which we have documented both with and without the wrought iron rope in place. Delivered fully wired with B22 sockets compatible with your country’s standards (EU, US, UK, Australia, etc.), these lamps are fine examples of French Art Deco lighting. LED can be used. They share the same period and stylistic lineage as renowned artists such as Marcel Vasseur, Edgar Brandt, Katona, Paul Kiss, Charles Piguet, Raymond Subes, Nics Freres, and Kis. Michel Zadounaïsky is celebrated for his meticulous craftsmanship in wrought iron furniture and decorative art. Born in Odessa in 1903 and emigrating to France in 1916, Zadounaïsky’s early training and dedication positioned him as a prominent figure in the Art Deco movement. His signature style includes fluid curves, interlacing patterns, and sharp, striking points—often featuring animal motifs like snakes and antelopes, showcasing his unique artistic voice. Zadounaïsky’s career flourished in Lyon, where he apprenticed and later opened his own workshop, creating bold, functional, and highly collectible pieces. His work was recognized by contemporaries like Raymond Subes, and he exhibited at prestigious venues such as the 13th Salon des Tuileries in 1935. His commissions included lighting for aristocratic clients like Viscount Ferdinand-Antoine de Lacroix-Laval’s château at Noailles. Though Zadounaïsky passed away in 1983, his legacy endures through his exceptional wrought iron designs, which remain sought-after in today’s Art Deco collector’s market. This pair of lamps is an exquisite representation of his masterful artistry and the timeless elegance of 1920s French wrought iron lighting.
