With early 20th century lighting as one of our specialities we were amazed when we found this unique light fixture. We were amazed by the quality and beauty and to have found it in this wonderful condition made the experience even better. 'Art and antiques with a soul' is what we strive to offer and this work of lighting art most certainly fits that bill. At the center of this antique chandelier are the bearded, wizard like sculptures in their unique body position. Kneeling down and bending over forward they are reaching out whilst holding onto their beards. These remarkably long beards are like flowing water from which ultimately the light holders culminate. We don't know from which legend, fairy tale or mythological story the artist got his inspiration, but the result is a one of a kind and striking fixture with a mystical look and feel that will never fail to impress. With all five-light burning this small size chandelier will easily light up a regular size dining or kitchen area. A Bit Of Information On The Semi-Precious Stone Onyx.
While it is often thought of as the black gemstone capable of transforming negative energy in positive energy, onyx is in fact a multicolor stone resulting from the metamorphism of limestone rich in Magnesium and Calcium, a process that takes thousands of years. During these years, climate change, natural disasters and wildlife have contributed to the various colors of each layer of sediments. In its primary stage, the rock does not reveal its beauty. However, once it is cut, carved, shaped and polished, the outcome is breathtaking. There is simply no designer like Mother Earth herself. We have been very grateful to visit two workshops where the stones are sliced, cut, carved, or otherwise shaped into their final forms. Watching these artisans covered in thick layers of dust, handling these blocks of stone was truly fascinating.
A Word About the Onyx Lamps
An onyx lamp is intrinsically beautiful. But when the light comes on, words cannot describe the magic. Pictures cannot capture its beauty. Our business is known primarily for selling the entire collection of Serge Mouille lighting in the USA. In our journey to find another exciting lighting product, we could not have found lamps that are more contrasting to the Mouille lamps. The onyx lamp is translucent and colorful, heavy, centered and stable, the perfect ambient lamp. The Mouille lamp on the other hand is elongated, thin, elegant, either black or white, weighs less than a feather and diffuses a bright functional light. Yet, they are both organic, eye-catching, gorgeous, and timeless. In fact, they complement each other very well.
