About the Item
An imposing oval convex wall mirror surmounted by a boldly carved spread-wing eagle, executed in giltwood with strong neoclassical influence. The deeply molded frame is enriched with applied gilt bosses and flanked by scrolling foliate brackets, terminating in a stylized shell and pendant drop below. The eagle’s head and wings are finely detailed, conveying movement and authority, and serve as a dramatic crest above the mirror plate.
The frame retains a warm, aged gilded surface with appropriate wear, lending depth and character to the carving. The convex mirror plate enhances reflected light and spatial depth, making this piece both decorative and functional. The reverse-painted black inner slip provides visual contrast and emphasizes the oval form.
