About the Item

A substantial and visually compelling pair of Regency-style convex mirrors, crafted in England in the late 19th century. Likely produced during the 1890s Regency Revival period, these antique mirrors reinterpret the earlier 19th-century form with restrained elegance and bold architectural presence. Each features a circular hardwood frame, recently refinished in matte black, and inset with a gilded inner slip that frames the large convex mirror plate. The mirrors measure an impressive 96 cm in diameter, offering strong decorative scale and the dynamic visual distortion characteristic of convex glass. The reflective surface retains a subtle patina and gentle aging typical of well-preserved antique mirrors. An unusual and distinctive detail is found on the reverse: the mirror backs are constructed from painted antique floorboards, possibly salvaged from ship interiors, lending the pair a compelling maritime narrative.
