Presented here is an exquisite antique Louis Philippe mirror, adorned with 19th-century French craftsmanship and elegance. Originating from southern France and dating back to approximately 1880, this mirror showcases the distinct characteristics of the Louis Philippe style, including its rounded upper corners.
Crafted with precision, the mirror is built upon a solid pine wood frame meticulously coated with gesso for a smooth finish. A notable feature is the ornamental blacked-out band adorning the highest point of the frame, adding a touch of decorative flair. Delicate pearl beading frames the original mirror plate, adding to its timeless allure.
The frame underwent a meticulous process of gold leaf gilding and partially polishing, resulting in a lustrous finish that highlights the intricate details. The aged patina that has developed over time adds to its charm, with the gold gilding revealing hints of a warm, red undercoat in areas where it has been polished more.
Despite its age, the mirror glass remains authentic, featuring a silver nitrate gilded glass plate. While bearing a few small scratches and minor spots, the glass is well-preserved and matches the overall antique appearance of the piece.
Carefully removed from its original wooden backing, both the mirror and its frame were thoroughly cleaned before being securely reattached. The mirror is without damage, clean, and ready for use.
