About the Item
"This exceptional large mirror was crafted in Northern France at the end of the 19th century, around 1870. The mirror features the characteristic rounded upper corners typical of the Louis Philippe furniture style. Adorned with a richly ornamented crown ornament on top, the crown consists of a centrally placed cluster of grapes with leaves, flanked by c-scrolls, acanthus, and flowers. The mirror frame has a base of solid pine wood and was smoothed with a layer of gesso. The crown was cast from plaster and internally reinforced with steel wire. The mirror boasts a complete faux rosewood painting, with a beautiful wood grain painted in dark brown and reddish-brown tones. The mirror has a deep gloss and a rich patina. The combination of such a large and richly ornamented mirror with the faux rosewood painting is very rare. We replaced the glass with a new thick mirror plate and installed a protective pine back. This unique mirror is without damage, clean, and ready for use."
