About the Item
A beautiful antique mirror that originates in France, circa 1860. The mirror has the rounded upper corners that are typical for French Louis Philippe mirrors. The mirror has a rich and highly detailed ornamented crest and ornaments at both lower corners. It features classical elements such as flowers, acanthus, and scrolls. The most elevated part of the frame features a classic pearl beading.
The color is mainly off-white with remnants of gold paint. Some parts are red with traces of gold leaf. The mirror frame has lost most of its original gold color and now shows the polished base material and the red bole undercoat.
The mirror frame is structurally healthy. The authentic mirror plate was cracked and was bleeding mercury. The old mirror was disposed of and the whole mirror was gently cleaned. A new silver nitrate silvered mirror plate was firmly inserted.

- Condition:Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. The mirror was most likely completely repainted with gold paint that eroded after a few years. The paint was stripped with a chemical paint stripper and the original gold hwas washed off as well. It is structurally solid and withoput damage.
