About the Item
A stunning, authentic French overmantel mirror crafted in the Louis-Philippe style, popular between 1830 and 1850. This style is known for its understated elegance, with gently rounded corners and a refined yet luxurious finish — all of which are beautifully represented in this piece.
The frame is richly adorned with gold leaf gilding, which was professionally restored several decades ago and remains in excellent condition.
The mirror retains its original beveled glass plate, a hallmark of its era. The glass is silver nitrate-backed, a traditional technique used to create a reflective surface by applying a thin layer of silver. As is typical for antique mirrors of this age, the plate shows numerous small age spots (often referred to as "foxing") and a few light scratches, all of which add to its authentic charm without detracting from its function.
