A Delightful And Rare 18th Century Chippendale Period Giltwood Wall Mirror, The Later Replaced Mirror Plate Enclosed By Very Attractive Carved, Pierced Frame Incorporating C Scrolls, Intertwining Branches And Rocailles Surmounted By Central Set Palm Leaf Design Pagoda Top. This fabulous 18th century mirror features many of the well known and highly regarded designs from the chippendale period. The carved pagoda type surmount is a particularly nice feature and really adds to the overall elegance of the mirror. In terms of condition the gilt retains a lovely vivid colour to it, whilst not being overpoweringly shiny and bright like some that may have been totally regilded recently. This almost certainly in fact retains its original gilding with various touched up sections throughout the years. It should also be noted that as expected for something of this age and it's relatively delicate nature there is some historic breaks and repairs to the frame, all of which have been sympathetically repaired and restored to blend in beautifully over the course of its history. The mirror plate itself is also replaced. The mirror is also a great size in terms of its functionality, big enough to have real presence in a room, but at the same time small enough to retain elegance and not be totally overpowering. Stunning pair of antique French or Italian gilt wood mirrors in very good original condition & with magnificent carved details all over. Please enlarge all the images to see the quality of the carvings, the original finish of the gilding & the backs. There are many detailed floral carvings & some cherub type figures on the bases. The gilding is naturally aged & all original. One of the inset mirrors is very aged & the other one, not so much. I’m not sure of the exact age, but I would say they date from before the 1840’s & could even be from the 1700’s period. It’s very rare to find a pair of gilt wood...
