About the Item

A stunning and intricately carved and gilded mirror with a crown of églomisé (reverse painted glass ) panels featuring the Greek goddess Demeter, flanked by a pair of cornucopias. Demeter is the goddess of fertility, sacred law and the harvest, and is holding a bushel of harvest wheat in one hand and a sickle in the other. The mirror and crown are capped by a bushel of wheat. Late 18th century France.
