About the Item
A very handsome and tall pier mirror that was made in the late 19th century in Northern France. Its square frame, decorative borders, and crest are typical for the Louis Seize style. The modest crest features beautiful roses with leaves. Below is a round glass plate surrounded by roses with a tied ribbon on top. A classic pearl beading surrounds the glass plate below. The glass is an authentic thick silver nitrate silvered glass plate with very few spots and scratches. The mirror frame was partially gold leaf gilt and polished and partially gold-painted en patinated with a dark patina that was applied to achieve a warm gold color. This two-tone gilding results in different shades of gold giving the frame more definition. The pine back cladding is authentic as well. The mirror was gently cleaned inside and out and the piece is very solid, without damage, and ready for use.
