About the Item

This is a beautiful sunburst mirror, made in the mid 20th century in France. Made from gilt wood - the carving is so detailed. Please have a look at all our pictures to see it all. The mirror features a circular central mirror - the diameter of the mirror plate itself is 16.5cm - this antique glass surface is foxed, consistent with it's age. Surrounding the mirror is an elaborate radiating frame made of giltwood. The design includes two alternating types of rays: Fluted, fan-like rays that are textured and taper outward. Curving, flame-like rays that create a sense of movement and give the piece a dramatic, radiant look. The overall style is ornate and decorative, reminiscent of mid-century French sunburst mirrors, made from the 1940s through the 1960s. It has a baroque influence due to the intricate, flame-like embellishments. The aged patina on the gold and the mirror surface adds to it's antique character. A gorgeous French antique!
