About the Item
The Tension mirrors are created from natural stones. The shape of each stone is formed the way rocks naturally fracture and break along their veins and fissures. By preserving the stone off-cuts from quarries in their raw form, and then fusing them with opposing highly polished glass surfaces, the resulting pieces poetically and provocatively position themselves on a line between design and art. Therefore each mirror will always be entirely unique. Katharina sources the rocks from all over the world, she keeps a large collection of stones at her studio in East London.
About Katharina Eisenkoeck (artist):
Currently based in East London, the Austrian designer Katharina Eisenkoeck creates finely crafted, intricate objects which push the boundaries of contemporary design culture. Katharina designs and produces work with sculptural simplicity and functionality through her distinct use of materials and personal approach. Within the making process, the refining and finishing are critical to her. This material experimentation allows Katharina to create objects that are long-lasting and unique.
Her work has always revolved around simplicity; it is a process of working toward a pure aesthetic. Each piece designed and crafted entirely by hand enables her to cross boundaries between sculpture and design.
