A refined mid-18th century French Rococo trumeau with its original painting on wooden panel, richly carved giltwood frame and original mirror. A rare and decorative piece with authentic patina, ideal for sophisticated interiors.
This elegant French Rococo trumeau dates to the mid-18th century and combines an original panel painting with a finely carved giltwood frame and its original mirror panel. Made in France around 1750, it shows the fluid movement and decorative refinement typical of the Louis XV period.
The upper painting is executed directly on a wooden panel, not on canvas, which is characteristic of earlier and higher-quality trumeau production. The scene depicts a romantic pastoral moment between a young couple surrounded by garden greenery and potted roses. The soft colours, delicate highlights and natural craquelure give the composition the warm charm associated with 18th century Rococo art.
The carved and gilded frame displays elegant asymmetry, scrolls and leafwork. The gilding shows natural wear consistent with age, creating a sophisticated historical patina. The lower section retains its original mirror frame, which balances the composition and adds vertical presence.
The reverse side shows the untouched 18th century structure with hand-planed planks, antique nails and traditional joinery. This undisturbed construction confirms the authenticity of the panel and the originality of the artwork.
