About the Item

A gorgeous 19th century French trumeau mirror framed in mahogany and rosewood, holding a beautiful oil on board painting of a warm coastal scene with ships at sunset fixed above the mirror plate. The beveled mirror glass may be more recent to the piece but adds a historic element that defines the reflection. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain the natural tones of the wood grain. This would be great over a mantel or a console table as a functional work of art. An exceptional carved and painted trumeau mirror, circa 1800, France. The antique mirror features a large carved and gilt wreath that is situated in the larger shaped panel above the glass. It consists of carved and blossoming roses on one side, with a laurel branch on the other, meeting in the middle at a carved knotted ribbon with tassels. Below this wonderful work of art is the trumeau mirror. The mirror is nearly square, measuring 17” H x 18-½” W, and is framed by carved and gilt trim, worked into twisted ribbon and beaded pearl motifs.
