About the Item
Unique 19th century Empire giltwood trumeau wall mirror with an original painted landscape on top, circa 1850. The tranquil scene in the manner of Hungarian landscape painter, Karoly Marko (1791-1860) is encased under glass and depicts a bridge with a fisherman in the foreground, cows in the distance and a rider on horseback crossing the bridge surrounded by trees. It is presented in a muted, earthy-toned color scheme giving this piece its acquired old world character and warmth. The frame has classic Empire design elements with columnar form, bold relief detail and corner rosettes while the gilt has a gently aged patina. Perfect for a smaller wall space or as part of an elegant vignette in any room.
