About the Item
A most decorative and whimsical pair of Italian mid 18th century Louis XVI Period patinated, Giltwood and Canvas Trumeau mirrors. Each exceptional Trumeau showcases all original mirror plates while set within patinated Wood frames. At the center are beige canvas panels displaying three mirror plates at the base, a stunning landscape at the center, and two side hand painted panels of Gilt garlands. The three original mirror plates are set within mottled Giltwood frames below the large scale and wonderfully detailed Grisaille landscapes with architectural ruins and bridges. In each charming landscape are figures conversing while wearing classical period clothing. The paintings are flanked by two vertical panels decorated by intertwined laurel wreaths with three berried laurel branches tied by a bow. A delicately mottled Giltwood border frames the beige canvas before leading to the outer red patinated canvas accented with Giltwood rosettes at each corner. The upper portion of each Trumeau is decorated with elegant Giltwood swaging berried laurel garlands.
