About the Item
Make a grand statement with this monumental antique mirror from Paris, France, circa 1870. Standing over eight feet tall, the mirror features an exquisite hand-carved giltwood frame richly decorated in the Rococo taste. The pierced and scrolled pediment showcases a dramatic cartouche adorned with grape clusters, pear fruits, and trailing vine leaves, symbols of abundance and refinement. Additional grape and foliage carvings cascade down the sides, each detail rendered in deep relief with remarkable craftsmanship.
The mirror retains its original beveled glass and solid wood backing, as well as its beautiful two-tone gold and silver leaf finish that has mellowed with age to a warm, luminous patina. The combination of sculptural carving and layered gilding gives the frame striking depth and presence.
This exceptional Louis XV-style mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. It would bring opulent French character to any grand entryway, formal dining room, or mantel setting. We have the original crate the shippers can use to professionally crate and secure for safe transport.
