About the Item
Carved Wooden Dragon Mirror, Indochina, Circa 1900
The frame, executed with exceptional craftsmanship, features a symmetrical and dynamic composition: two majestic dragons, finely carved, emerge from the lower corners to entwine a central upper medallion representing the yin and yang — an ancient symbol of cosmic balance.
Their sinuous bodies flow fluidly along the sides of the frame, in a movement that is both powerful and harmonious.
The lower part of the frame is dominated by a frontal enigmatic face — somewhere between dragon, protective demon, and Barong figure — with a mysterious smile, giving the piece a unique and protective presence.
The original mirror, with a subtle bevel, shows some signs of wear on the silvering, bearing the marks of time.
The frame has been carefully restored in our workshop, respecting its patina and historical integrity.
