Fine French Régence / Neoclassical Style Giltwood Mirror

This elegant French giltwood mirror, dating to the early 20th century, is executed in the refined Régence and Neoclassical taste that revived 18th-century courtly ornament with academic precision. The tall arched form is crowned by an elaborate crest featuring scrolling acanthus leaves and a classical floral finial, framed by delicately carved foliage and beaded moldings that reflect superb craftsmanship.
The richly carved giltwood frame displays fine hand-worked detailing throughout, including stylized rosettes at the corners and a continuous leaf-and-bead inner border that draws the eye inward to the mirror plate. The gilded surface retains a warm, luminous patina, with areas of soft wear and subtle rubbing that enhance its depth and authenticity rather than detract from its presence.
The original beveled mirror plate is proportionally generous, offering both practical function and strong architectural impact. The reverse shows traditional wooden backing and original hanging hardware, attesting to its quality construction and period integrity.
Balanced in scale and classical in design, this mirror is ideally suited for use over a console, mantel, or in an entry or dressing room, where its elegant silhouette and historic French character can be fully appreciated.
