About the Item
A sensational and most decorative Italian early 19th century Louis XV st. Giltwood mirror. This elaborately decorated double framed Giltwood mirror is centered at the bottom by charming single rose reserve flanked by scrolls and leading to additional foliate carvings. The original beveled oval mirror plate displays an elegant patina throughout and is set within a wonderful beaded and mottled frame before an outer mirror plate band with an aged finish. The foliate decorated base is joined to the top by delicate vertical linear bands adorned with rose carvings at the mid section, and additional foliate branches, flowers and acanthus leaves throughout. To each side of the exceptionally executed top crown are charming cherubs perched on scrolled movements, while surrounded by abundant flowers and holding large scale swaging foliate garlands. The garlands connect to a richly carved pierced central reserve of floral sprays and an abundance of scrolled acanthus leaves and foliate branches. A unique design with exceptional proportions and attention to detail throughout.
