About the Item

Large Pair Antique Porcelain Rococo Style Floral Flowers Mirrors German, Late 19th Century Height 136cm, width 90cm, depth 17/ 20cm This exceptional pair of mirrors, crafted by master German artisans, exemplifies the ornate elegance of the Rococo style while showcasing the celebrated artistry of the Meissen manufactory. Created in the late 19th century, these pieces draw inspiration from the 18th century designs that first defined this highly decorative style. Each mirror features a closely matched design, with rocaille-shaped white porcelain frames topped with gracefully arched crowns. The frames are parcel-gilt and elaborately adorned with colourful, encrusted motifs, including soft pink and turquoise foliage, richly painted flowers, and lush green leaves. Yellow canary birds and delicately modelled, semi-nude cherubs embellish the corners and sides, while a vibrant bouquet of porcelain flowers crowns the top, adding depth and visual richness. The finely crafted three-dimensional details create a striking sense of movement and life, highlighting the extraordinary skill of the artisans. Practical as well as decorative, the lower sections of the frames feature candleholders on either side, allowing the mirrors to illuminate the surrounding space. Adding further distinction, each piece bears a coat of arms in a cartouche at the base of the frame. With their impressive scale, intricate decoration, and superb craftsmanship, this pair of antique Meissen mirrors makes a stunning statement in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Pair of Meissen style porcelain and ebonised wood mirrored wall brackets German, late 19th Century Height 88cm, width 36/40cm, depth 19cm This superb pair of wall brackets are a masterclass in the Meissen design style. The mirror of each bracket is mounted on an ebonised wood backing, which is surrounded by a porcelain C-scroll surround encrusted with floral decoration. Two expertly crafted birds perch at the corners of each bracket, carefully painted to mimic their real-life counterparts. The very top and very base of each bracket culminates in a playful putto, who represents one of the four seasons. Below the mirrored section of each bracket is a semi-circular wooden top, which sits on top of a basket-shaped porcelain support. Pair of Giltwood Mirrors with Porcelain, Rococo, 18th Century
By Matthias Lock
Located in Madrid, ES
Pair of "cornucopias" with mirrors, nearly identical (except for details in the leaves of the frames), carved and gilded wood. Inside, the main mirror has moldings that draw curves and straight areas, volutes and other elements. The elaborate decoration of the wall mirrors is based on grotesques in the lower part, from which plant elements emerge that are prolonged, accompanied by hangings, towards the upper part by the sides, with openwork details. Above, the crests have circular spaces, flanked by birds perched with its wings partly extended, and surrounded by elaborate frames that, like the rest of the pieces, have architectural elements (scrolls, smooth oval mirrors), plant elements and shapes that remind Rococo rockery. Clearly, the examples are included within the Rococo, counting, even with the slight asymmetry presented by the decorative motifs of the same and that slight difference between both examples. It is possible to find similarities in the design of these cornucopias with different engravings and works by Matthias Lock...
