About the Item
A rare and highly unusual French Napoleon III carved wood, gesso and gilded frame with a modern mirror in it. The frame is decorated with cartouches and is further embellished with three applied carved wood and gilded
elements, two on the bottom featuring winged cupids holding up drapery, and the top larger element shows another cupid among leaves and flowers holding a flambeau and quiver in the Rococo manner. The frame retains it's original gilding which has tarnished and become dull but de[ending on preferences gives the frame its age related patina. It is very likely that the frame started life with a romantic movement important painting in it.
