About the Item

Pair of articulated artist lay figures. Lay figures are posable mannequins, typically smaller than lifesize, historically used by artists to replicate the posture of a live model and the draping of their clothing without requiring the model to sit for incredibly long durations. Constructed of wood and metal, these lay figures were likely a skeleton framework built to feature a range of additional components, with a screw-threaded neck and wrists designed for the purpose of later attaching a head and hands.
