About the Item
19th Century Italian Neoclassical Louis XVI Painted 3/4 Bed was custom-made, as is the case with most fine beds from the period, designed to take a particular size of mattress before the standardization of sizes in the early 20th century. The straightforward framework will be fitted with brackets according to its new owner's requirements, performed by our expert in-house staff, as the mattress set can be mounted inside or on top of the side rails. The footboard with egg finials and rails are of a very tailored design, completely covered in the base color of a pastel bluish green. The headboard, however, commands attention, styled with an oval placard framed by the bedframe posts which feature highlighted fluting and beautifully carved lotus style urn finials. The oval is framed by a subtle pastel peach colored molding with gold highlighting, surrounding a foliate border which then frames the lovely landscape vista. Hand-painted decorative brackets hold the oval form, which is further embellished with applied laurel sprays and a rosette on top, all highlighted in patinaed gold. An excellent choice for a refined, Old World look!
