About the Item

Great Chinese opium bed from the late 19th century. Finely carved, lacquered, gilded, and hand-painted exotic wood, this bed is of excellent quality and visually striking. The sofa base is constructed from a single block and cannot be dismantled. The headboard and side panels are adorned with painted flowers and landscapes with characters in antique Oriental style (see photo). The sofa rests on four solid, richly carved and gilded legs, with rear feet featuring carved spheres. This bed is ideal for a large living room or for display outside under a protected porch, for antique dealers and interior decorators. It has a beautiful patina and is structurally sound, with minor signs of age (see photo). Overall, it is in good condition.
