About the Item
Exquisite antique 19th century French Louis XVI Full Size Bed. Made from solid quartersawn oak with meticulous carving throughout. Features square fluted posts with French medallions. The footboard is beautifully carved with a neoclassical scene showcasing ribbons, torchieres, scrolling foliate and swag. The scene is inset and framed in a panel with stepped dentil molding. Lower apron has a ribbon at the center flanked by an intertwined vine motif. This motif continues along the side rails with some fluting at the center. The final touch of this masterpiece can be seen along the crown of the headboard in a flowing serpentine pierced and carved ribbon and bow motif. This elaborate and large scale carving is rarely found in pieces from this period. The frame is supported by square tapered feet. Side rails have metal L brackets to support box spring and mattress. The perfect addition to any space.
