ANTIQUE CRADLE
About the Item
This particular example, with the carved dolphin head, dates to the 18th C. There is little doubt that its origin is Italy and most probably Venice. It is constructed from solid walnut (the wood of choice at this time in Italy). Especially notable are the refined use of glass eyes.
Real Fantasy Furniture of the 18th C is rare. Cradles of this quality, because of their limited use, were especially rare and only the most important families could afford them.
