A spectacular pair of antique Italian headboards, hand carved and gold leafed (parcel gilt as the backs are not gold leafed and the integrated supports are painted black), from the ex-collection of New York City fashion designer, Chanel model, Studio 54 regular and all around European / American playgirl Jackie Rogers. Ms. Rogers stated in a 1984 interview with W and Women’s Wear Daily publications that the “bed’s carved wood headboards are relics from a 17th century Venetian palace.” I believe this pair of headboards dates to the early 1800's with a possibility of the late 1700's. Can you imagine the stories they have to tell? Did you see the photo of Ms. Rogers reposing in her bed? P.S. I also have a photo of a polaroid of an unidentified man in the bed. The expressive and powerful yet airy carving is presented with an expertise and artistic quality quite unmatched on today’s market. The Rococo Revival style 'S' and 'C' curves throughout create gorgeous fluidity and movement. The tops of the design of each headboard can either face each other or face away from each other (that's up to you). The gold leafed figural flames dance, gyrate and leap up from the black painted supports. Ms. Rogers had the matched pair of relics / architectural elements / headboards placed against the wall as a larger, probably king size, headboard. Their use is limited only by your imagination. Perhaps a day bed, pair of twin beds, architectural elements, fireplace screens, wall ornaments or imagined into another design all together. With the incredible and documented provenance from the collection of Ms. Rogers as well as the article stating their Venetian heritage, this matched pair of headboards is a rare, unique and sublime find.
