About the Item
In this listing you will find a spectacular Antique Biedermeier sleigh daybed in walnut veneer. The bed features characteristic curved or scrolled headboards and footboards, resembling a sled or sleigh, which gives it its common name. The design emphasizes clean, simple, and stoic lines with minimal ornamentation, a hallmark of early modern design principles.
Biedermeier furniture commonly utilized locally available and less expensive woods such as cherry, walnut, birch, ash, and oak, rather than imported mahogany. These woods were often polished to a high sheen to highlight the natural beauty of the wood grain, which served as the primary aesthetic statement. Made in Austria in the 1820s.
There is a second bed available, awaiting reupholstery. If interested in both, please reach out for the quote.
Bed is in good antique conditon with some signs of time and use. It has been recently refurbished by the previous owner and polished in French finish. It has also been fully reupholstered in off-white boucle, the mattress and the cushions as well.
When purchased the bed will be dismantled and carefully wrapped up and packed in a way to avoid any damages in transport. As soon as shipped you will receive the tracking number for your package. If you have any additional questions regarding this piece please feel free to contact me.
