About the Item
This handsome French elaborately carved solid walnut bed features brass ormolu mounts on both the head and footboard. It measures 60 inches wide and 78 inches long. The inside measures 58 inches wide x 78 inches. It could be converted to a queen size in two different ways. Remember there are no antique queen or king size beds- those were introduced in the 1950s. So if you want to fit a larger mattress it has to be retrofitted. Solution #1- a standard queen mattress would sit on top of the rails, with an extension added between the footboard and the side rails. I have had this done in my own home for a double Victorian bed. now fitted with a queen mattress. Solution #2- have a custom mattress made for the bed which would be slightly smaller than a standard 60 x 80 inch queen.
