About the Item

Very rare Directoire period four poster bed. Headboard and footboard are original - including paint. The tops curve gracefully outward. The friezes at either end feature beautiful hand carved motifs (urns, losanges, rosettes, foliage). The boards are painted in a faux-wood trompe l'oeil. Fluted columns and posts. A wrought-iron canopy could be made to complete the top. The rails are recent. Comes apart, making shipping easier.
