About the Item

An early-production pair of twin headboards designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller, featuring a clever hidden storage compartment that opens to reveal an internal storage with shelf. Crafted in walnut with clean, rectilinear lines, these designs embody the refined functionality and modernist ethos of Nelson’s mid-century modern work. Ideal candidates for refinishing and customized reupholstery. *Priced as a pair, we can sell a single individually - contact us for details. The upholstered panels, presently in an earlier plaid fabric, soften the minimalist silhouette while providing comfort and textural contrast to the warm wood frame. Each headboard rests on signature block legs and retains its original Herman Miller Furniture Co., Zeeland, Michigan tag, pointing to an early manufacturing date within the series’ production timeline. A quintessential example of mid-century modern American design, these headboards merge timeless style with practical storage, making them ideal for collectors, design enthusiasts, and those seeking to furnish a vintage-inspired bedroom. Their modular twin sizing also allows flexibility, use as a matched set or individually. MEASUREMENTS: H 39.75" x W 40" x *D 14" * the overall depth is 14" when accounting for the cushions, if only measuring the top it is 12" in depth. CONDITION: Original un-restored condition with moderate to heavy age, wear and patina including scratches, scuffs, fading and losses to veneer. Would benefit from full restoration (refinishing and reupholstery). Or can be used as-is with light restoration (touch up and steam cleaning) in a vintage setting.
