About the Item

Italian Double Bed Headboard in Painted Wood with Shell and Leafy Volutes. Handcrafted from fir wood in the second half of the 20th century, this antique double headboard is a softly shaped panel, 170 cm high and 180 cm wide, ideal for a double bed, has two side posts and a fretwork carving that enhances the polychrome decoration. This antique Italian bedhead is richly hand-painted with plant elements, scrolls following the fretwork carving, and acanthus leaves surmounting and enclosing the central shell. It is the work of a decorator from the mid-1950s who painted this headboard with very warm tone hues, we find the blue of the central shell, ochre, Naples red, light green, delicate and pastel nuoances. It comes from a private collection in Lombardy and is in good condition, with signs of wear compatible with use. On the back, at 95 cm - 37.40 inches high are holes with hooks to hang the headboard on the wall. In Greek and Roman myths, shells were a symbol of prosperity, rebirth, and pointed to the source of fertility. The shell recalls the idea of the womb and is a symbol of love and birth. The photo editing accidentally deleted a curl, but you can see it in the listed image without a white background. For the export from Italy of an art object that is more than 50 years old, a government export license called BELLE ARTI must be applied for. the issuance of such a license takes about 2 to 3 weeks, to be added to the order processing time.
