About the Item
An extraordinary example of Italian rationalist design, this rare multifunctional headboard produced by MIM (Mobili Italiani Moderni) in the 1960s stands out for its versatility and refined construction. Designed for hybrid use, it can be used both as a single bed headboard and as a sideboard or bar cabinet thanks to its self-contained and articulated structure.
Made of wood veneer, it features two elegant drawers with metal knobs, an open compartment equipped with a fine adjustable lamp attributed to Gino Sarfatti, and a recently reupholstered ochre-colored bouclé fabric-lined flap that conceals an interior storage space-perfect for bar or nightstand function.
The single bed, which leans directly against the frame, maintains the same formal rigor and use of fine materials, with curved wooden sides and matching feet. Aluminum finials at the foot of the headboard and bed further emphasize the attention to detail typical of MIM production.
Complemented by a beautiful patina of time deliberately preserved, this composition is a perfect blend of functionality, design and textural warmth. Ideal for modernist environments, collectors and lovers of postwar Italian design.
