About the Item
Model: Abitacolo (“Casetta”) – Multifunctional Bed, Accessorized Composition
Design: Bruno Munari
The iconic “habitable module for kids,” designed by Bruno Munari in 1971 and awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979, is presented here in its fully accessorized version. Conceived to offer maximum functionality within minimal space, Abitacolo is assembled using only eight screws—an example of Munari’s ingenious approach to simple, intelligent, and adaptable design.
In this enriched configuration, Abitacolo becomes a true micro-living environment: a bed, desk surface, shelves, and support elements coexist within a light, transparent steel structure. The result is a personal habitat where children and teenagers can study, read, organize their belongings, or relax.
The clever system of hooks, shelves, and storage baskets allows the structure to be configured and personalized according to individual needs.

Bruno Munari
In his prolific career, Bruno Munari was known for various contributions to art, industrial design, film, architecture, art theory, and technology. Munari’s principles and beliefs were built upon his early involvement in the Futurist movement, which he joined at the age of 19 using the pseudonym “Bum.” During the 1930s, Munari began to move towards Constructivism, particularly with his kinetic sculptures, Useless Machines (begun 1933), meant to transform or complicate their surrounding environments. Throughout his career, Munari was captivated by both a sense of whimsy and the manipulation of artificial light. After World War II, Munari also developed radical innovation in graphics, typography, and book publishing, through the latter creating pieces he would call Useless Books.
