A fine semi-pair of French 19th century Louis XV style gilt bronze-mounted tulipwood, kingwood and Satinwood floral marquetry Bombé commodes with a Brêche Violette marble top. The serpentine two-drawer commodes with bowed front and sides, surmounted with floral and shell gilt bronze mounts, the front corners with acanthus gilt bronze mound and the two front cabriolet legs with gilt bronze sabots, Paris, circa 1880-1890. Measure: Commode one height 36 1/2 inches (92.7 cm) Commode one width 45 3/4 inches (116.2 cm) Commode one depth 22 inches (55.9 cm) Commode two height 37 inches (94 cm) Commode two width 46 1/2 inches (118.1 cm) Commode two depth 24 1/4 inches (61.6 cm) Notes: Though these commodes have the same provenance and they are an almost identical pair, which most cannot tell, one has a slightly lighter finish than the other and some of the ormolu mounts are slightly different as well. The tops, though both Brêche Violette marble, appear to be from different quarries, one has a deeper Violette and white color while the other is mainly veined white with some Violette areas. One commode is also 1/2 inch wider and 2 1/4 inches deeper and 1/2 inch taller than the other. See all images. They will make a great pair of bedside commodes...
